The group has been
in existence for the past 15 years. The trio has built up a huge reputation as one of the
most versatile and hottest live acts currently gigging in South Africa. They have
collectively or individually also backed some of the regions biggest names - Vusi
Mahlasela, Caiphus Semenya. Hugh Masekela, Hotstix Mabuse, Sibongile Khumalo, Jonas
Gwangwa, Ray Phiri, Bheki Khoza, Victor Masondo, Lesego Rampolokeng, Duncan Senyatso,
Patience Africa, Mbongeni Ngcma and many more. Anchored
by the rock-solid rhythm section of bassist Jimi Indi and drummer/percussionist Godfrey
Mgcina, and featuring guitarist Louis Mhlanga. Musik Ye Afrika have now produced a
spectacular debut album for the newly-formed Upenyu Records label.
Recorded 'live' by the band themselves at the Shifty
studios in Johannesburg, this brilliant album is a treat of rich musical textures. With
it's exhilarating beats, driving rhythms and sweet sound, there's a song for every mood -
especially those in the mood to dance.
Musik Ye Afrika are widely traveled, together and
individually, and have performed all over Southern Africa and at major festivals in
Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Sweden, Norway, America, Belgium, Holland and the
United Kingdom. The group is a melting pot of musical influences, and with each member
taking a turn on vocals, they manifest themselves in this glorious collection of
grooves. Occasionally the group features either a saxophonist or a pianist. |
